From an Idea to a Reality

November 1997 A national mentoring conference calls for the establishment of a mentoring initiative targeting black/minority ethnic people in Scotland.
March 1998 LINKnet constituted, by the Centre for Education for Racial Equality in Scotland, Skillnet Edinburgh and Edinburgh's Telford College.
May 1999 A survey of twenty-five black/minority ethnic organisations in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife was commissioned and undertaken.
January 2000 Memorandum and Articles of Association approved by the membership to establish LINKnet as a Company Limited by Guarantee.
June 2000 Major, three-year project funding application to the Community Fund (formerly the National Lottery Charity Board), was approved.
August 2000 Office accommodation found in central Edinburgh and lease terms agreed, including redecoration, with the Edinburgh University Settlement.
September 2000 Three members of staff recruited.
November 2000 Project starts.
